I headed to the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoint Authority to get my student visa. It opens at eight, so I was planning to be there around six. My new hostel is close to an MTR station and only five stops away, and I've been waking up around 5 am or earlier, so I was optimistic, but I woke up at 5:30 and was then very slow to get going, including going the wrong way out of the MTR station. So I was about ninetieth in line:
I collected intelligence about the line and headed out, to return another day when I felt better, had food and water, and could get there before six:

Update: Other students told me they went at 8:30, went straight to the appropriate office, and had no wait. Apparently that line isn't for us. D'oh.
