I've finished classes. The final exam was Monday, and I finished all the grades this morning. (See attached graph.) Here is a list of all of the thesis choices each student had, followed by the thesis statement present in the actual essay. Some students wrote essays that bore little relation to the choice of topics, and as 100 out of 400 points were for 'arguments supporting the thesis,' generally such students failed to score above 75%. Although I intended this as a 'cheater' filter to identify students who were copying from other sources or who had prepared an essay in advance for this open-book test, it seemed to catch good and bad students equally. Perhaps that means that many students I thought were 'good' are cheating? Anyway.
