An easy policy decision: make everything better y/n?

Policy usually involves making hard trade-offs. Economics and Project Management call one flavor of tradeoff the “Trilemma”: out of better, faster, and cheaper, you can’t have all three at once. But this does not apply when you are smashing yourself in the face with a hammer. Then you can just stop. A silver lining of the US COVID response is that we could just stop doing it wrong, and everything would get better in every way. Any community that adopts a hard lockdown, enforces real travel restrictions and quarantines and masks and distancing, and uses adequate testing and contact tracing will eradicate COVID in one or two months and become a Green Zone. And then they can go back to normal for as long as they can maintain travel restrictions.
